Splotchy Darkened Gums Lased to Healthy Pink
As discussed on the
Melanin Laser Treatment page, certain cultural factors and imbalances of pigmentation components form the basis for unusual colorations of ginigival tissues.
The range of darkening effects can be spotted or splotchy (light and dark brown).... all the way to nearly 100% of the gum tissues. Black gums usually refers to the condition where all or most gum tissue is affected, with a complete brown appearance.
As can be seen in the first close up photo, our young female patient had spotted or splotchy gums, with differing shades of brown tissue. She felt very self conscious about this condition.
Although her gingival tissues were otherwise healthy, she nonetheless felt she had an unhealthy smile... and refrained from smiling often.
OpusDent Laser Technology
Dr. Bram routinely uses the Erbium:YAG Laser to treat the affected areas. A relatively painless process, Dr. Bram uses special laser tips that provide the precision needed for treating affected areas selectively.
The second close up photo shows the use of the OpusDent handpiece,
lasing the affected tissue. Healing of the treated tissues is fairly rapid.
Comfortable Treatment
Discomfort, both during and after treatments is minimal for most patients. Patients commonly report having
itchy gums during the post operative period, for just a few days. For others it may be several days.
The third close up picture shows the gum tissue 4 weeks after treatment. Notice how the gingival tissues are uniform in appearance and color.
Within a few more weeks the patient will be ready to undergo her choice of different teeth whitening procedures that will produce the final cosmetic result she has in mind.
Since Dr. Bram provides all popular brands of teeth whitening.. the patient will be assured of having a dramatic final outcome.
Our patient was very pleased with her treatment results. She regained her confidence to smile again. Her smile now appears in two places.... a smile with her mouth... and with her eyes.
Below is an unsolicited testimonial - Thank You note Dr. Bram later received from the patient. Notice how she developed her own new nick name.
